About
I’m Tim Gubler.
I’m an Associate Professor of Strategy and Alice Belle Jones Fellow at the BYU Marriott School of Business. I study how people contribute to organizational performance, and how organizational choices shape their effort, attention, and judgment.
Before pursuing my PhD, I worked as an electrician and project manager in my family’s electrical contracting business. That experience continues to shape the questions I ask about skilled work and the organizations that depend on it.
I earned my PhD in Strategy at Washington University in St. Louis and joined BYU in 2019 after serving on the faculty at UC Riverside. I served as a Senior Editor at Organization Science from 2023 to 2026.
Beyond work
Family, the outdoors,
and making things.
Outside of work, I enjoy time with my wife and children, mountain biking, skiing, scuba diving, and playing music. I also like working with my hands and building things.
I lived in Taiwan for two years and speak Mandarin Chinese.
